Funeral service for Wilford Ray “Porter” Woods, age 67 of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2015 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Sullivan and Pastor Jason Revill officiating. Interment will follow at Hawkins Cemetery with Robert Woods, Jon Eric Nordin, Christopher Woods, Billy Sims, Ernest Boyd, and Jason Revill serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Red Barn Crew. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2015 at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Porter passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Porter was born June 18, 1948 in Hawkins, TX, the son of Travis Franklin and Emma Christine Surratt Woods. He married Rebecca Ellison on June 20, 1969 in Hawkins, TX. She survives. Porter was retired from Verizon after 36 years. He was always very involved in youth sports, umpired in many baseball and soft ball games, coached special Olympic Bowling and was very active in his children and grandchildren’s activities.
In addition to his wife he is survived by sons, Jackie Woods and wife Stephanie of Mineola, TX, Greg Woods and Travis Woods both of Sulphur Springs, TX. Brothers, Roger Woods of Quitman, TX, Mitchell Woods and wife Carol of Hawkins, TX, sisters Kay Dunlap of Eustice, TX, Shirley Revill and husband Charles of Hawkins, TX, and Trellis Sims and husband Ronnie of Arkansas, grandchildren, Garrett Woods, Grant Woods and Adelyn Woods.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
