Hospital Board Questions Additional Surgery Center; Negotiations with CHRISTUS Continue

hospitalAt Monday night’s meeting of the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Board, a figurative curtain was pulled back at one point revealing what negotiations may be like as the board and CHRISTUS Health attempt to hammer out an partnership agreement.

CHRISTUS, affiliated with the Catholic Church, recently raised an ethical and religious directives question because of sterilization surgeries such as tubal ligations and vasectomies done at the hospital.  The solution agreed to would mean creation of a separate ambulatory surgery center owned and operated by the hospital district.  The hospital does not want to foot the entire estimated $2-million cost of such an area and the board is looking for a way the cost can be shared.  Negotiations continue.
