On July 1, Sulphur Springs ISD Tax Collector Sandra Gibby turned over her list of delinquent tax payers this year to collection attorneys. It is required by law that collections be turned over to attorneys. Additional penalties of 20% of the delinquent tax plus penalty and interest have been added. At this time, collections of taxes are near 97% of the total. The school budget is set using the 97% collection level.
Like everyone else’s office in the School Administration Building on Connally Street, Ms. Gibby says the school district tax office is closed every Friday this summer.
