The Wildcats’ soccer team matched Pine Tree goal for goal through regulation and overtime only to lose in penalty kicks. After a scoreless first half, the Pirates scored first in the second half. The Wildcats got the equalizer on a Juan Gomez goal on a penalty kick. At the end of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime, it remained tied 1-1. Pine Tree won 4-2 in penalty kicks. The Wildcats host Greenville Tuesday night. (B)
In weather described as pretty brutal, the Wildcats’ baseball team opened the regular season at a Tyler Lee tournament Friday and Saturday with a win and two losses. The Wildcats rallied past Forney, lost to great pitching from Lufkin and had the wheels come off in a 10-4 loss to Nacogdoches. The Wildcats had a 4-1 lead at one time in the last game. The Wildcats have six games scheduled in a Lindale tournament this week. (B)
Wildcats’ basketball junior post Cain Cody and senior guard Jaylon Dugan were named First Team All-District by the district’s coaches. Cody, last year’s District Defensive MVP, missed repeating by a single vote. Wildcats named All-District Honorable Mention were Mason Buck, Ke’Onetae Dunn, Garrett Jones and Keylon Hall. Buck and Cody were also recognized as Academic All-District selections.
