Wildcat Weekly Recap

WILDCATS BASEBALL

The Wildcats’ baseball team played five games Friday and Saturday at Lindale and Tyler. The Wildcats defeated Groesbeck but lost to Spring Hill Friday, then downed Van, lost to Tyler Lee in Tyler and then lost to Edgewood Saturday. The Wildcats are now 3-5. Coach Jerrod Hammack said the team needs to be more consistent. The Wildcats play at a Texas High tournament Thursday through Saturday.

LADY CATS SOFTBALL

Lady Cats Softball Coach David Carrillo says he hopes to open district play at home against Longview Wednesday at 4 p.m. If Lady Cat Park is too wet then, the game could be moved to Thursday. Saturday at Texas A&M-Commerce’s artificial turf field, the Lady Cats rallied from behind at beat Sherman, 6-4 and Princeton, 7-6 before losing to North Lamar, 9-5. The Lady Cats are now 6-2 for the season.  I talked with Lady Cats Softball Coach David Carrillo.

POWERLIFTING

No Wildcats’ powerlifters qualified for the state meet at a regional meet in Lindale Saturday. Freshman Johnathan Alvarez just missed, getting third in the 123-pound class earning a medal. Perhaps the best shot for state, sophomore Taylor Ibarra, missed his weight in the 132-pound class by .6 of a pound. Junior Alex Gamez finished seventh in the 220-pound class and freshman Dustin Crabtree was eighth in the 123-pound class

WILDCATS TRACK

Wildcats Track Coach Matt Young was pleased with his team racking up 40 points at a Gilmer meet last Friday with no field events, no relay points and against some solid competition. Zach Spigner won the 110-meter hurdles. Nathan Mabry ran well in the 3000-meter and 1500-meter runs. Jaylon Hawkins was second in the 100-meter dash and Carter White was second in the 800-meter run. We get results from Wildcats Track Coach Matt Young.

WILDCATS SOCCER

The Wildcats’ soccer team gave up two early goals in a 2-0 loss to Longview at the Track Soccer Complex Field Friday night. The Wildcats will miss the playoffs for the first time in 21 years. I talked with Wildcats Soccer Coach Andy Holt on KSST and Channel 18’s Saturday Morning Coaches Show.
LADY CATS SOCCER

Lady Cats Soccer Coach Jesus DeLeon was joined by senior forward Star Resendez and senior defender Hattie Schultz on KSST and Channel 18’s Saturday Morning Coaches Show. Star discussed the challenge that resulted in Coach Deleon sporting a bad haircut Saturday. Coach DeLeon talked about the goal that resulted in a 1-0 victory over Longview and Hattie discussed an important team only meeting that has apparently turned the teams season around.
