Community Education Classes Slated at the PJC-Sulphur Springs Center

A variety of training courses, including computer, health care and OSHA courses, are available in January from the Paris Junior College-Sulphur Springs Center Continuing Education Department.

The first class for the new year is Microsoft Word Level 1, which covers creating, saving and opening documents; editing documents; cut/copy/paste and find/replace; formatting text and paragraphs; formatting documents; creating and formatting tables. The class meets Fridays, Jan. 9-16 from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

A special course being offered is Hazwoper 40-Hour Training a course required for workers performing activities that might expose them to hazardous substances. This class is specifically designed for those involved in clean-up operations, voluntary clean-up operations, emergency response operations, and storage, disposal, or treatment of hazardous substances or uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. This class meets Monday-Friday, Jan. 12-16, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Flatbed Securement & Safety Workshop will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16. The course helps drivers understand how to safely load, inspect and secure several different types of cargo hauled on flatbed trucks.

Medication Aide Update will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16. The course fulfills Texas Department of Health specifications on annual renewal requirement. Med Aides should take this course one month before their certification card expires.

The Initial Basic Life Support class on lifesaving skills for respiratory and cardiac emergencies will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23. The American Heart Association certifies the class.

A Nurse Aide class will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, Jan. 26-Feb. 16, and the clinical meets Mondays through Fridays, Feb. 17-March 6, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The class offers preparation for entry level nursing assistants.

The OSHA Confined Space course covers OSHA and company requirements for entering confined space areas. Includes introduction, entry permits, equipment review as a field exercise, and attaining authorization for monitoring and entering. The class will meet Fridays, Jan. 30-Feb. 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
