John Ratcliffe to Serve on Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees

HEATH, TX – Congressman-elect John Ratcliffe has been selected to serve on both the Judiciary Committee and Homeland Security Committee in the 114th Congress. “I’m grateful to have the opportunity to serve on two committees with jurisdiction over areas of critical importance to the American people,” Ratcliffe said. “My experiences as a U.S. Attorney and terrorism prosecutor will give me valuable subject matter expertise in the policy areas these committees oversee. I look forward to working my colleagues to advance the conservative agenda so desperately needed to put our country on a better path.”

On the Judiciary Committee, John will tackle issues that impact Americans every day. First and foremost, the committee serves as a guardian of the Constitution. Because the committee has primary responsibility on immigration, John will have an opportunity to fight back against the Administration’s lawlessness and ensure those who illegally circumvent our established immigration system are not rewarded. John’s seat on the committee will also allow him to protect unborn life, defend religious freedoms, preserve the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, reduce costly frivolous lawsuits, and combat human trafficking.

John’s national security background makes him especially qualified to serve on the Homeland Security Committee, where he will address issues vital to the safety of the American people. Securing our nation’s borders and protecting America from threats like ISIS will be top priorities. John will also have an opportunity to work on cybersecurity issues, and on protecting the many critical components of our nation’s infrastructure. The nation’s water supply, the electrical grid, and the many modes of transportation used by Americans every day must be secured against the threat of those seeking to attack our homeland.

As U.S. Attorney, John earned praise for defending the Constitution, cracking down on illegal immigration, and protecting our nation from terrorist threats. John served by special appointment in U.S. v. Holy Land Foundation, which resulted in the successful prosecution of an organization funneling money to designated terrorist group Hamas. His record also includes eight years as the Mayor of Heath, TX where he balanced every budget without raising taxes.

John will represent Texas’ 4th Congressional District which includes 18 counties in Northeast Texas touching the Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana borders. He will be sworn in as a member of the 114th Congress on January 6th, 2015.
