Rodeo Royalty

Enola Gay welcomed rodeo queens Miss UPRA and Miss Teen UPRA and contestants this year for the crowns to KSST’s Good Morning Show Friday morning. Reigning Miss UPRA is Allison Day of Texarkana. Three contestants are competing for her title this year. The reigning Miss Teen UPRA is Kylie Huie of Winnsboro. Six young ladies are vying for her title. The new royalty will be crowned at Saturday night’s Cinch UFR event in the Civic Center Arena.

With the rodeo in town this weekend, a Handicapable Rodeo for children with special needs was held Friday in the Civic Center Arena. Local UPRA Committee Member Oscar Aguilar said about 300 kids were attending from more counties than before. There were horseback rides, a mechanical bucking bull and lots more. Some 250 Sulphur Springs High School Key Club members assisted the special needs kids.

Two good friends, rodeo announcers T.C. Long and Wes Huggins are working the Cinch UFR event this weekend. Long said it was a privilege for the two to work together. Both are from West Texas. Huggins still calls West Texas home but Long has relocated to East Texas. Both spend most weekends at a rodeo. One gets the feeling there is nothing they would rather be doing.
