Miller Grove News 11/5/14 By Brandon Darrow

With the opening of deer season this weekend and the cool snap we have had, I have seen many pictures posted on Facebook of deer that have been shot in and around the county.

This week there are several people with MG connections that need to be recognized. First and foremost I would like to tell everyone how well Miller Grove High School’s Cross Country team has done this year. UIL’s Region II Cross Country meet was deemed very successful by onlookers from Miller Grove. Our high school boys took first place while the Lady Hornets snatched third place honors.

Congratulations to Trinity Moseley on being inducted into the honor society at Northeast Texas Community College. That is a great honor and I know her family must be very proud. Trinity’s husband is Davy Moseley and in-laws are Fred and Ann Moseley.

Chanda Neal is the final person this week that has a connection to the community that has recently received a honor. Some of you may not recognize the name Chanda Neal. Well, she actually went to school at Saltillo but yes, she does have ties to Miller Grove. Chanda’s grandmother is Holly (Woodard) Neal and great-grandmother is Bobbie Ruth (Garrett) Woodard. If you noticed the back page of the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram this weekend you saw a big picture of Chanda with a story titled “Top Honors” under the Neighbors section of the newspaper. She, along with another Saltillo FFA member, was recognized as an American FFA Degree recipient. This is a rare achievement to say the least. Statistically, this honor is received by less than one half of one percent of all FFA Members and the degree is bestowed on individuals that have graduated from high school 17 months prior to the award being received.

Many of you will remember Mr. Lowell M. Robinson that taught English at Miller Grove School in the 1950s. Mr. Robinson passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014 in Commerce. He was buried in Cumby Cemetery on Oct. 28. Jones-Walker Funeral Home of Commerce was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Robinson was 91 years of age being born in Cumby on May 6, 1923, to L.M. and Flora Elizabeth (McDowell) Robinson.
Happy Birthday to Teddy Jennings & Andrew Steele on Nov. 2, Abby Tipps on Nov. 3, Peggy Weatherly on Nov. 5, and Susan (Renshaw) White on Nov. 7.
