TV Channel 7 in Tyler reported on their website Thursday that former Rains County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerrod Dooley had animal cruelty charges dropped against him in return for surrendering his law enforcement license. The agreement was struck during a pretrial hearing before District Judge Eddie Northcutt in Rains County District Court. Dooley was charged with the shooting death of a blue healer dog during a burglary investigation.
