Jacob and Tiffany Peugh and their children Tyler, Collin, Kenden, and Jaidyn, and Chip and I visited Liz Steinsiek and her children, Michael and Tonja and their families on Thursday evening. Michael, Tracy, Jordyn, Madison, and Lani were visiting from Schertz (near San Antonio) and Will, Tonja, Gabriel, and Kristina were in from Chicago. Harold Cowley, Tracy’s mother, Susan Gatewood, and Will’s parents, Johnny and Cilla Hudson, were there, too. We enjoyed a wonderful meal of smoked brisket and all the trimmings, prepared by Will and Tonja. Guests brought side dishes and desserts to share. Following the meal, we had a good time visiting and playing games.

Morgan Joslin met friends in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday, July 26th, and they flew in a small plane to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the EAA Airventure fly-in airshow. It is one of the largest of its kind in the world, with some 10,000 planes, helicopters, and experimental aircraft. He got home on Saturday, August 2nd.

The annual Hot August Night BBQ Cook-off and music event at the Hopkins County Civic Center is coming up on Saturday, August 16th. Phil Vassar will be the featured performer. The fundraiser benefits the county volunteer fire departments. Please make plans to attend and support your local firefighters. The BBQ grounds will open at 1:00 p.m., with cooks preparing their entries, vendors and a kids’ zone. Serving of the BBQ meal will begin at 5:00 and the concert will start at 7:00, inside the civic center arena.
