Leon NixFuneral service for Leon “Pop” Nix, 82, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 22, 2014 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Masonic graveside honors by the Sulphur Springs Masonic Lodge #221, will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ed Pingle, Robert Stidham, Johnny Cross, Red Cross, Lee Teetes, Scott Washburn, Bobby Bankston, and James McMahan. Honorary pallbearers will be James Cross and Tommy Marr.

Leon passed away on June 19, 2014 at Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler. He was born on April 19, 1932 in Cullman, AL, the son of Harrison and Nellie Turner Nix. He married Shirley Hall on July 3, 1953, in Sulphur Springs. She survives. Leon attended the First Presbyterian Church, he served in the United States Army, and was also a member of the Sulphur Springs Masonic Lodge #221. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by son, Tony Nix and wife Debbie of Sulphur Springs, daughter, Robin Steed of Sulphur Springs, grandchildren, Ashley Washburn and husband Scott of Sulphur Springs, Amber Nix of Sulphur Springs, Brian Nix of Chandler, great-grandchildren, Sara, Sydney, and Sadie Washburn of Sulphur Springs, and sister, Frances Orr of Glencoe, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church at P.O. Box 173, Sulphur Springs, TX 75483.
