July Programs at Cooper Lake

June is in the rear view mirror and straight ahead is July! And right off the bat is July 4th weekend. If you haven’t made your reservations for camping that weekend you need to make them soon. There are a handful of sites still available. There will be several additional programs being offered over the weekend that might be of interest, and whether you are a camper or just want to come out for the programs we look forward to having you here at Cooper Lake State Park!

I want to highlight several of the programs. The Dutch Oven Cooking program will be held on Friday, July 4th, at 9:30 where you will be able to watch a demonstration of Camp Dutch Oven cooking. On Saturday, July 12th there will be an Orienteering Program at 9:30 to demonstrate and experience how to use a compass to navigate. Reservations are required for this program. The very popular Night Sky Activities and Wonders of the Night Sky will be on July 19th at 2:30 and at 8pm respectively. And then…because the lake is up sufficiently…we will be offering the Guided Canoeing Tour again on July 26th at 9:00am. Reservations can be made for this program by calling the Park Office.

July 1 is also the date that new boating regulations begin regarding the transporting of water from one body of water to another body of water in a watercraft’s livewells, bilges, motors, or other receptacles. This also will affect the transporting of live bait and the water they are stored in. All of this has been put in place to help stem the movement of the invasive Zebra Mussel from one body of water to another. More information is available on the TPWD website at this link: http://texasinvasives.org/zebramussels/

We look forward to seeing you out at Cooper Lake State Park. Whatever you do over this holiday weekend BE SAFE!

LIFE IS BETTER OUTSIDE!
