Funeral services for Sammie Lee Gasaway, age 87, of Dallas, will be conducted at Mitchell Chapel Church of God, at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 29, 2010, with Pastor Nelson Gatlin officiating. A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Byrd Harris, “Joe Boy” Sanders, Damion “Wolfe” Nash, Charlie Dawson and Terry Lee Moore. No formal visitation is scheduled.
Sammie Lee Gasaway passed away Sunday evening, May 23, 2010, at Dallas Center of Rehabilitation. He was born in Sulphur Springs on November 19, 1922, the son of Jim Gasaway and Ella (Edwards) Gasaway. He married Eva Person in Sulphur Springs on August 3, 1942; she survives.
Mr. Gasaway was a retired mechanic and a member of Mitchell Chapel Church of God. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Other survivors include: two sons, Samuel D. Gasaway and wife, Pam, of Greenville, Micheal Kelly and wife, Bernadette, of Plano; daughter, Rebekah Ausbie and husband, Christopher, of Dallas; grandchildren, Britanny Anderson, Samuel Gasaway, II, Tristan Wright, Tarron Wright, Micheal Kelly, Morgan Kelly, Devious Cherry; great-grandchildren, Xykorian Jordan, Destiny Wright, Xylon Jordan and Brooklyn Wright.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, five sisters, son, Paul Milton Gasaway and grandchild, Austin Kelly.
Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
