The Wildcats’ soccer team dominated play but could only defeat defensive-minded Princeton, 1-0 on the road Tuesday night. Adrian Correa got the Wildcats’ only goal about twenty to twenty-five minutes into the first half on a booming shot into the goal from 25 to 30 yards out. Wildcats Coach Andy Holt said the Panthers commited players to the defensive end that greatly limited their offensive chances. The Wildcats host Commerce Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. to make up for a rained out game Saturday.
The Lady Cats’ softball team saw their record slip to 3-2 after a 4-0 loss to North Lamar on the road Tuesday evening. A Pantherette pitcher limited the Lady Cats to two hits while striking out 11. Two Lady Cats’ errors in one inning resulted in an unearned run scoring. Hailey Dixon took the loss to go 3-2 despite allowing only six hits but two home runs. The Lady Cats, challenged by injuries and illness, will now play six games over three days including contests with Lindale, Crandall and Pilot Point at a Prosper Tournament Thursday.
The Wildcats’ golf team shot a higher score than expected at their first tournament of the season on Tuesday at Northridge Country Club in Texarkana. The four-person team shot 336. Wildcats Golf Coach Ross Funk said he saw some nerves and some rusty players battling a wet course. Coach Funk said the team did fairly well from tee to green but was hurt by their short game, especially putting. Kason Childress shot 77 to place fifth. Garrett Landers had 82, Alex Buchanan 86 and Hayden Sickles 91.
