A funeral service for Rayburn Dale Smith, age 71, of Cumby, will be conducted at Brashear Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013, with Rev. David Burns officiating. A military graveside service, under the direction of The Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at Brashear Cemetery. His grandsons, Tyler Smith, Landry Smith, Justin Varner, Tyler Gomez, Brandon Gomez and Sammy Gomez will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be James Buchannan, Jack Smith, Red George, Johnny Bloyed, Kenneth Romans, Arlie Wayne Bryant and Scott Mabe. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Rayburn Dale Smith passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at his residence. He was born at Brashear, on April 13, 1941, the son of Rayburn Millard Smith and Nancy Margi (Buckholt) Smith. He married Betty Carol Perry at Brashear on October 6, 1962; she survives.
He was retired from the LTV Corporation and a member of Brashear Baptist Church. He served in the United States Air Force.
Other survivors include: two sons, Ricky Smith and wife, Natalie, and Timmy Smith, all of Arlington; daughter, Debbie Gomez and husband, Sammy, of Brashear; two sisters, Carolyn Kay Vaughan, of Brashear and Lisa Ann Smith of Rockwall; brother, Carl Allen Smith of Brashear; grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Landry Smith, Dalaina Smith, Coty Smith, Justin Varner, Tanner Gomez, Lacie Gomez and Brandon Gomez.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
