J-L-NabersFuneral services for J. L. “Silver Fox” Nabers, age 85, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2013 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Moore and Rev. C. J. Duffy officiating. Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce with Eddie Gray, Ronald “Squirrel” Wills, Anthony Scott, Justin Nabers, Ben Nabers and Mike Barnett serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2013 at West Oaks Funeral Home.

Mr. Nabers passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Rock Creek Health and Rehab. Mr. Nabers was born on August 25, 1927 in Commerce, TX, the son of Homer and Josie Lena (Horton) Nabers.


Mr. Nabers retired after 32 years from Gulf State Telephone Co. as an equipment foreman. He was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church of Greenville where he was also an Elder and a Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of the Western Swing Dance Society, the Genealogical Society and the Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by his companion Dorothy Duncan, his first wife of 34 years, Jimmie Moore, daughter, Jean Ann Scott and Mike Barnett of Cooper, sons, Jack Nabers of Quitman and Johnny Nabers of Cumby, grandchildren, Shawna Scott Terry, Anthony Scott, Benjamin Riley Nabers, Justin Nabers, 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or to Legacy Hospice in Sulphur Springs.
