Funeral services for Lillie B. Gode, age 96, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Tinsley officiating. Interment will follow at Arbala Cemetery with Kevin Horton, Brad Ellis, W. G. White, Jerry Womack, Jerry Willis and Gino Medina serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 prior to service time at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gode passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Carriage House Manor. Mrs. Gode was born on November 5, 1915 in Hopkins County the daughter of Clarence and Annie Penny.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gode was retired from the Sulphur Springs Independent School District. She was also known as one of the founders for the original recipes for the Hopkins County Stew.
Mrs. Gode is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jo Nell (Horton) Willis of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Kevin Horton of Sulphur Springs, Marvin Cornell and Regene Cornell of Balch Springs, Tammy Horton of Brownwood; great-grandchildren, Holly Horton of Greenville, Kristin Horton of Sulphur Springs, Richard Horton III of Kuwait, Sharee Horton of Sulphur Springs, Jessica Horton of Sulphur Springs, Samantha Horton, Davis Horton and Brittani Horton all of Killeen; great great-grandchildren, Tori Grant and True Garriga of Sulphur Springs; brother, William B. Penny and wife Vernice of Sulphur Springs; sisters, Carrie Ellis of McKinney, Dorothy Duncan of Sulphur Springs and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Maynard Horton the father of her three children and Marvin Gode and their infant son; sons, M. L. Horton, Richard Horton, Sr; daughter, Reba B. Willingham; grandchildren, Richard Horton, Jr. and David Lee Horton; brother, Milton R. Penny and sister Ola Mae Griffin.
