Funeral services for Captain Bobby Joe Dunavin, Ret., age 83, of Cooper, will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012, with Rev. C. J. Duffey officiating. A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Hurley, Jeremy Hurley, Larry Whitener, Dusty Garcia, David Toles, Randy Fouse and Charles Britton. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Captain Bobby Joe Dunavin, Ret. passed away Thursday morning, July 26, 2012 at Carriage House Manor. He was born in Sulphur Springs on May 1, 1929, the son of Arthur Joe Dunavin and Maudie Mae (Stephenson) Dunavin. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Aline Darden, whom he married in Sulphur Springs on November 9, 1948.
He was retired from the United States Army and he was a retired meter reader for Texas Power and Light. He was of the Baptist faith.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Carla Hurley and husband, Richard, of White Oak, Angie Flanagan and husband, Ricky and Misty Whitener and husband, Larry, all of Cooper; brother, Jearl Dunavin and wife, Helen, of Greenville; grandchildren, James Mullins, Karrie Reagan, Dana Toles, Daryl Dunavin, Jeremy Paul Hurley, Amy Hurley, Cyndi Smith, Randy Fouse, Katy Fouse and Cody Whitener; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by son, Danny Dunavin and daughter, Cindy Dunavin.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
