vickersphotoFuneral services for J. D. Vickers will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 p.m., Monday, April 9, 2012, with Rev. Jim Tomlinson officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, with Benny Williamson, Garry Hall, Royce Vickers, Gerald Garner, Ronny Parris and Dr. Billy Davis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be T. J. Miller and Clifton Spears. Visitation will be held one hour before the service (3:00 p.m.).

J. D. Vickers passed away Saturday morning, April 7, 2012. He was born in Hopkins County July 30, 1915, the son of Elmer Vickers and Kate (Burkhart) Vickers. He married Gracie McBride in Sulphur Springs May 29, 1940. She preceded him in death in 2002.

He was a retired truck driver for Bonner Wholsale and former pastor of several churches. He was a member of North Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include: daughter, Diane Davis and husband, Cecil of Sulphur Springs; son, Larry Vickers and wife, Janet, of Como; two sisters, Margie Hall and Mary Hurt, both of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren Carla Fisher and Michael and Lori Dotson and Ron; great-grandchildren Landon and Monica Fisher, Lorynn Dotson and Lucas Dotson.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Garner, Lorene Beckham, Eva Lee Williamson, Irene Hargrave and brother, R. C. Vickers.

Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
