Peggy Geneva Fletcher Skidmore Swagerty of Canton, TX died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at her home after a short illness, surrounded by love. She was born May 5, 1934 at home in Emory, to Edd A. and Vera G. (Powell) Fletcher. She was 77 at the time of her death.
She graduated from Emory High School (Rains) in 1951 and was class Salutatorian. She attended East Texas State University-A & M Commerce from 1951 to 1954 and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree.
She married Ray A. Skidmore in 1954, who proceeded her in death in 1984. They had four wonderful children; Eddie Ray born 1955 Clayton Scott born 1958, LuAnne born 1960 and Peggy Lee born 1964.
Peggy was a dedicated school teacher and taught in Crosby , North Dakota; RG Air Force Base, Kansas City , MO; Glendale, AZ; Emory & Rains High School; Hampton, VA; Kaiserslautern, Germany; Travis Heights Elementary School (6th grade) as well as two other local schools in Austin, TX; Kaufman Elementary 1991-2002 (3rd & 4th grade ESL) Kaufman, TX where she retired. She was loved by all her students and recognized numerous times as an outstanding educator. During her career she took a break from education and worked for Merrill Lynch as a stockbroker for several years and sold insurance and tax annuities for Southwestern Life Insurance.
Her childhood sweetheart, Loyd Keith Swagerty, found Peggy again and they married on April 14, 1997 in Mesa, AZ and would have celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary this month. She leaves beautiful memories to her cherished husband, children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. She was an adored wife, amazing mother, loving grandmother, and faithful friend to many. The family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers, well wishes, and concerns. A very special thank you to Nancy Wilson for helping us through this difficult time. We feel God sent this special Angel to us during our time of need.
Survivors include: Husband: Loyd Keith Swagerty of Canton, TX Children: Clayton S. and wife Irene of Florence, TX, LuAnne and husband Gayland Landfried of Lago Vista, TX, Peggy Lee and husband Kiley Davis of Fort Leonard Wood, MO Grandchildren: Aubrey K. Landfried, Ray F. Skidmore, Scott J. Skidmore Relatives: Loudele Dowdy, Kay Fletcher, Barbara Treadway, Cindy Sikes, David Skidmore, Candi Clarke, Brett Treadway, Tiffany Treadway and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and many, many friends.
She is reunited with her precious son Eddie Ray, beloved parents, sister Pat, grandparents and many relatives and friends.
Service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Smith. Visitation is Friday, April 13, at the funeral home from 4:30-6:30 pm. Internment at Emory City Cemetery.
