Jack Stephenson is a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He supports other agencies and patrols Cooper Lake and other federal properties in a six-county area. Duties include doing water patrols and inspections. Stephenson says he doesn’t arrest anyone. He prefers to give verbal warnings. Next comes a warning citation and for repeat offenders, a federal citation. Common violations deal with tree cutting, picking wildflowers and speeding. For really serious offenses Stephenson says he will issue what he calls hardcore citations. These are issued for off road vehicle abuse of the land and for digging for artifacts in archeological areas. Stephenson discussed his job as a guest on KSST’s Good Morning Show with Enola Gay Friday morning.

Bipartisanship is alive in the Texas Senate unlike in Washington. That’s one of the things State Senator Bob Deuell, a Greenville Republican and physician, told Hopkins County Republicans Thursday night. Senator Deuell said he has a personal and great relationship with all his colleagues regardless of party. After visiting Washington, Senator Deuell said the parties there have strategy sessions to make the other party look bad and added lawmakers must have the leadership’s permission to even speak to a member of the other party.
