The biggest news in the community this week is the school’s annual Fall Carnival. Please make plans to attend this Friday night. There will be stew and chili served as the evening meal, games and booths in the old gym, and later BINGO for all ages. As always, this is a great fundraiser for the school. Each individual class and the PTO benefits greatly from the Fall Carnival. The money made at this fundraiser helps the students and PTO...

Miller Grove News 10/14/14 by Brandon Darrow

This week’s cold front is surely here! Makes me hungry for some of my favorite cold weather food – stew and chili! My condolences to three families with Miller Grove connections this week who have had loved ones that passed. Claire Moseley, Edward Clark, and Gary McLarry are three souls that have left this world since my last writing. Claire Alma (Thibault) Moseley was born Feb. 7, 1935, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. She was the...

Fall is here and the days are getting seemingly shorter. Before we know it, it will be time to roll those clocks back one hour as daylight savings time ends. Another thought that enters my mind when I think of autumn is the school’s annual Fall Carnival. This year it is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24. Saturday was Farmers Electric Cooperative’s annual business meeting. This year the meeting was held in Rockwall. I think there were...

How about this cool front that has made it’s way into our area? I walked outside Monday morning and couldn’t believe it. It felt like Autumn was in full swing. In fact, Tuesday morning on my way to work I saw a group of geese flying south in a “V” formation. Thursday of last week Miller Grove School hosted their second annual Cross Country Meet. Twenty-three schools were represented with a total of 533 runners. We took 2nd place in...

Community news is scant this week. As I wrack my brain as to what has been happening lately I can only focus on the weather and how nice the norther and rain has been this past week. It made for a good weekend. I’m sure it also made the Rains County Fair much more enjoyable for the patrons who attended. I passed by the fairgrounds Friday and Saturday and from what I could tell there was a really good crowd of people there. Happy...

September is scooting right along and before we know it fall will be here. I am already looking forward to the cooler temperatures that are supposed to arrive this weekend. Catching up with some news that happened back in July, Sharon (Weaver) Casey, filled me in on some of the happenings in our neighboring community of Greenview. On July 6 the Greenview Cemetery was dedicated as a Historic Texas Cemetery. The designation medallion...

Hope everyone had a safe and fun Labor Day. Traditionally, Dwayne and Kathy Wren have a big meal each year on Labor Day and they invite me and several other folks in our family but this year was skipped. Kathy has recently had surgery on her arm so they decided to opt out of the annual meal. I sure did miss it too. They always have a great variety of food and it’s always a good time to catch up with a lot of people that I don’t get to...

Another week of August heat! I am looking forward to the cooler temperatures that should be just around the corner. Phillip Jennings had a nice retirement party Friday afternoon. Cake and punch were served to FEC employees to celebrate Phillip’s last official day of work. Sunday afternoon the County Line School historical marker program committee met to discuss the inscription that was proposed by the state historical commission. We...

This week’s news is a little more eventful that the last few weeks. Weather has turned hot on us but that is expected for August! We have had a very mild summer, which I am very thankful for. Friday I took off of work early to go see my cousin Tiffney Darrow graduate from nursing school. Our cousin, Nathan Petty, also went with me. The ceremony was held in the Whatley Center at Northeast Texas Community College just outside of Mt....
