Brashear News 5-1-2015, by Debbie Young

After a weekend of storms, I think there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  A few days of sunshine and winds, may dry us up a bit.  Thankful for the rain.  Cooper Lake is full and several lakes in the area are near full too.  Thank you Lord.  This might mean the drought is over. I heard on the weather last night that last year at this time we had had 3.17 (approx. inches of rain); currently we are 14. (approximate) Wow what a...

Brashear News Well has anyone had a chance to total up all of the rain we have received in 2015?  I can in two words, A Lot.  A friend mentioned that if it rains on the first of the month, it will more than likely rain 15 days out of that month.  Well so far in 2015, it is right on.  We are having a hard time keeping our yard mowed without leaving tracks.  Ugh!! Our garden is doing well.  We are eating broccoli, kale, onions, and...

Small town life is the life for me.  Last week, Tom and I were out of town and unreachable by telephone.  So when we looked at our FB we find a message, Pat George wanted to let us know that our water meter was going crazy.  Running……a lot.  So Red turned our water off before our bill became too bad.  Our son, Matt, came and checked out the house and no water flowing.  So it was determined that the commode was running, so thankful...

What a difference a week can make? No freezing weather this week. We have had the rain though. Our pools are up and the ditches are still running. We had a lot of water over the road on Monday evening. Garden is showing signs of life. We can see some sprouts but hard to get out and check to see how it is doing. We did notice Wednesday afternoon that some varmint had been digging around our onions and potatoes. Tom thinks an armadillo...

Slow news around Brashear this week. We did have a little excitement with a Med Helicopter landing on the old ball field today. The major wreck on I 30 had a serious injury that needed to be transported to the hospital. It was exciting. I also learned that Kris Childers has bought The Old Store in Brashear. Can’t wait to see what he has in mind for the store. I did learn that Ron Bramlett’s mom is moving to Sulphur Springs from Plano....

I am so sorry about missing the deadline for the past few weeks not much going on. A small world thing happened this week. I got a call from a man in Harrison County asking questions about Brashear Cemetery. It seems that he and his wife are going to come in March to search the Cemetery for her relatives. While talking, I ask their name. Lo and behold, their name was Buckholt. I go you are kidding. My grandmother’s maiden name was...

We are so excited that people have been using Brashear Free Library. There has been a request for Heaven is for Real and The White Giraffe. If anyone has these books they do not mind lending for a short time, please let me know. We placed some devotional books in the box today. Weather was simply beautiful on Thursday and it sounds like it is going to continue up until at least Monday of next week. Get out and enjoy it. Heard tonight...

Happy New Year!! I heard a great statement by Pastor Joel Tiemeyer the other day. He said it was better to make a Faith Statement. So let’s do it. Make your own Faith Statement for the 2015 and may your faith carry you through all the ups and downs of the New Year. I would like to express my sympathies to the Childers/Bunch family. We lost a great woman this past week. Jo, as I knew her, was a very giving lady and did a lot for a lot...

Rain Rain and more rain. We so need it. I just asked Tom how many days have we seen the sun this week. Not many but it is okay. If you happen to see my friend, Chuck King, be sure to wish him a Happy Birthday. I will be a good friend and not put his age in the paper since we are the same age today. Christmas is fast approaching and I wanted to say Merry Christmas to all of my friends here in Hopkins County. This season will be hard...

So sorry I have missed sending in my news lately. Change is hard sometimes. Turning in my article on Thursday evening instead of Tuesday makes me think a little. Thanks to everyone for being patient with me. I sure hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving last week. The weather was just perfect. Not too cool and certainly not too warm. Brashear Free Library is alive and doing well. I know that sounds funny but we are so excited...
