Extremely Low Turnout For Tuesday Run-Off Election in Hopkins County
April 11, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Only 65 people voted in Hopkins County Tuesday in a Democratic run-off election for Railroad Commissioner. County Clerk Debbie Shirley says it’s the lowest voter turnout she has seen in a countywide election. Hopkins County has more than 21,000 registered voters. Ms. Shirley estimates the election cost the county $1200 to conduct early voting. She says the local Democratic Party paid more than $4,000 to hold the election. Hopkins County voters preferred candidate Dale Henry to candidate Mark Thompson by a few votes but Thompson took the election statewide and will face a Republican in November.
