About
KSST 1230AM celebrated its 60th anniversary on March 1, 2007. The station was featured in a lengthy article by The News Telegram of Sulphur Springs, and enjoyed the company of many local listeners.

In brief, KSST started on the second floor of the old J.C. Penny building on the downtown square in Sulphur Springs. The year was 1947 and the first airwaves transmitted carried the Star Spangled Banner to KSST’s first listeners across the area. The first commercial was read live for Bell Concrete at 7:00 am. Bill Bradford remarks, “at 12:30, the Nelson’s Pharmacy had a spot. We charged them a dollar and a nickel. That was back when a nickel was worth something, and a dollar was worth a bunch.”
Many of KSST’s elder listeners recall the days of the 1230 Club, the 1954 Sulphur Springs Centennial celebration, and Radio Workshop. The station still occasionally provides tours to Boy Scout troops looking to earn their Media patch.
Over 60 years, KSST and staff have seen tremendous growth in Sulphur Springs and surrounding areas. There is a lengthy list of sponsors who have contributed to the community through their support of KSST.
