Billy Jack Allan Wins Again

Billy Jack Allen believes he has won the Texas State Champion Homemade Ice Cream Freeze Off title six times. He’s entered for 25 years. He says one of his secrets is that his wife says he has to eat any ice cream he makes that is not good. Year after year judges seem to like what he makes. This year’s winner Saturday was a banana nut ice cream. The Allen family has produced lots of winners over the years. This year Chris Allen took first in Big Dips Plain with chocolate and Machelle Allen was first in Little Dips Novelty with Peanut Butter Nut Bar.

The Ice Cream Freeze Off is a Chamber of Commerce event and Chamber President Meredith Caddell says they had sixty entries Saturday. She believes there was plenty of ice cream for everyone although she estimates between 750 and 800 tickets were sold to ice cream eaters. By the way, Ms. Caddell stayed so busy running things; she didn’t get a single bite of ice cream.
