Borrowing from the movie Mr. Holland’s Opus, Sulphur Springs Character Curriculum Director, Middle School Teacher and Football Chaplain Jeff Harris provided the keynote speech for the entire SSISD staff at Convocation Monday talking about providing students with a compass. Harris, based on what he’s learned as a student and observations from being around educators, presented seven characteristics of great educators; one’s that impact students’ lives. He said great educators don’t just fill students with knowledge but give students a compass to apply what they have learned for the rest of their lives.
