A city of Sulphur Springs street crew made a first concrete pour as they worked on rebuilding Rogers Street between Connally and Van Sickle Monday. They started at 4 a.m. using portable light to see. That keeps them out of the hot afternoons when concrete dries very rapidly. Rogers and Mulberry streets are being rebuilt with new sewer and water lines using mostly a USDA grant. The work crew will also be improving storm drainage in the area. The concrete work on Rogers is all that is left. The crew is also using a mechanized screed that smoothes the street. The project is expected to be finished by the first of September. Then the crew will return to the job of filling the city’s numerous potholes. Almost 1100, or 56% of them have been done so far.
