A 23-year old Hopkins County man was sentenced in 8th District Court Wednesday to 27-years in prison for continuous sexual abuse of a child. Stephen Waters must serve all 27 years before parole can be considered. Sentencing followed a victim impact statement by the mother of the girl victim who quoted her daughter telling Waters, you hurt me but you didn’t break me. In April Waters agreed to enter a plea to a lesser charge but then did not show up for sentencing. U.S. Marshals found him in a motel in Abilene. Facing a trial next month on the more serious charge, Waters finally agreed to the 27-year prison sentence.
