Sulphur Springs City Manager Marc Maxwell is looking toward an old friend faraway in the Pacific Ocean, El Nino, to help fill up drought-impacted Cooper Lake. Cooper Lake is 8.5-feet low, just marginally better than at this time last year. Maxwell says scientists predict a 70% chance of El Nino conditions, which usually mean more rainfall here. Meanwhile the good news is Lake Sulphur Springs, the city’s backup for water, is full.
