Lady Cats Softball Wins Area Round Series Taking 10-1 Victory Over Midlothian Thursday

The Lady Cats pounded out 14 more hits and pitcher Bailey Haggerty allowed only three hits as the Lady Cats soundly defeated Midlothian, 10-1 Thursday at Royse City to take their Area round series two games to none. It took the Lady Cats a little time to take charge of the game. They led only 4-1 until they scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning to turn the game into a one-sided one. The Lady Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The first run scored on three straight singles from Alli Fite, Brinklee Driver and Kate Womack. Later with the bases loaded, Addison Caddell worked a walk that forced in a run. The Lady Cats made it a 4-0 game with two more runs in the top of the third inning. Sierra Smith doubled, Caddell singled and Maddie Millsap walked to load the bases. Nylah Lindley’s single scored Smith. Caddell then raced in from third base on a pass ball. Midlothian tightened the game to 4-1 in the bottom of the third with a home run by Maddie Morrow. Then the Lady Cats exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth using five hits and a walk. Sadie Stroud singled and Smith walked. Caddell’s single scored Stroud. Millsap singled to load the bases. Lindley cleared the bases with a double and she moved to third on a throw toward home. Lindley scored on Kelsey Wallace’s ground out to shortstop. Driver capped the inning with a line drive home run over the tall center field wall. Haggery got the pitching win going all seven innings allowing three hits and one run while striking out eight and walking two. Lindley went 3 for 4 with a run scored, a double and four RBI’s. Caddell was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Fite was 2 for 5 with a run scored. Driver was 2 for 5 with a run scored, a home run and an RBI. Stroud was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Womack was 1 for 5 with an RBI. Smith was 1 for 2 with a double and two runs scored. Millsap was 1 for 2 with a run scored. Wallace had an RBI. Abbi Baier scored a run. The Lady Cats will face the winner of a North Forney and Hallsville series in the Regional Quarterfinals next week.
