Lady Cats Softball Coach Looks Toward Quarterfinals

Lady Cats Coach David Carrillo on Game Two Area Round Win Over Midlothian

Lady Cats Softball Coach David Carrillo did not want a repeat of the Lady Cats game two in their bi-district series against Whitehouse last week when playing Midlothian in the Area round this week. After winning 14-4 in Whitehouse, the Lady Cats got by Whitehouse 6-3 at Lady Cat Park. In the Area round, the Lady Cats again had a big game one winning 10-0. Game two was Thursday evening (May 2) at Royse City, and again the Lady Cats started slowly. They led only 4-1 going into the top of the fifth. That inning changed everything as the Lady Cats scored six runs to make it a one-sided 10-1 game. Coach Carrillo said his team expected to see the Panthers top pitcher again Thursday but instead faced their number two pitcher. He said it took the team a while to adjust to her different style. Coach Carrillo said one of the problems early was the lack of a big hit. He credited pitcher Bailey Haggerty with throwing a great game as the offense started a little slow. Coach Carrillo said some of the Lady Cats wanted to get a big hit so badly that they were impatient at the plate. Then came the six run fifth inning. The Lady Cats had 14 hits in the game. He said Nylah Lindley had a real super game going 3 for 4 with four RBI’s. Brinklee Driver also hit a home run. Coach Carrillo said the Lady Cats appear to be fired up and focused. They now move on into the Regional Quarterfinals. They will play either North Forney or Hallsville. North Forney leads that series 1-0 after winning game one earlier this week. The two teams play Friday night and possibly Saturday, if necessary. Coach Carrillo expects to scout both teams on Friday and possibly Saturday. He acknowledged scheduling the series next week would be a challenge battling the weather as well as testing and the prom.
