Pirates and Mermaids! The Summer Reading Program Starts May 30 at Sulphur Springs Public Library

Librarian Hope Cain

Calling all Pirates and Mermaids! The Summer Reading Program is going to be one of the most fun parts of the summer for children in the Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County community! Why? For one reason, because the Sulphur Springs Public Library is teaming up with Bright Star Productions of “The Little Mermaid” to bring excellent reading opportunities, family Bingo and game nights plus weekly storytimes featuring costumed guest readers within a theme of Pirates and Mermaids. How can you get your children signed up for 8 weeks of fun and learning? Just call 903-885-4926 or go to the Library at 611 North Davis Street or visit the website at sslibrary.org. Or attend the SRP’s “Kickoff” event on Thursday May 30, 2019 from 5-7 pm where there will be a petting zoo, face painting, a Game Truck and registration sign-up table with reading logs. Get a SRP calendar and don’t miss even one of the fun weekly events, through July 31. The Summer Reading Program is free for the benefit of every child, age infant through age 13.

According to Librarian Hope Cain, all over the world, libraries are valuable, information-rich places. They offer free information, entertainment and education through books, for all ages. Our library does this and more inside a beautiful, efficient and spacious facility. How does our public library keep running? In Sulphur Springs, it is funded through taxes as an investment, not a luxury, in order to serve the needs of the public. It offers reading materials and much more, including online resources, free resume maker, free language-learning and study space to mention a few features, plus a new Scholarship program which provides adults with a pathway to graduate with a high school diploma. As Hope Cain stated, “the Library can do all this because Sulphur Springs decided to put it’s tax dollars toward a resource that is part of the public good. Thank you, Sulphur Springs!”
