J.B. Lancaster

J.B. Lancaster of Commerce, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019 in Greenville, Texas at the age of 101 years old, just two days short of his 102 birthday.

J.B. was born the son of John and Addie Lancaster on May 1, 1917 in Cooper, Texas. He married Lettie Thomas in 1932 at the age of 15; a union that lasted 72 years until Lettie’s death in 2004. Although he and Lettie never had any children of their own, they loved little kids. This love was demonstrated through their support for many years of orphanages in both Africa and India.

J.B.’s life was one that was dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. This devotion led him to attend Freed-Hardeman University, a private Christian university in Tennessee. He preached the gospel all around East Texas, in Arkansas, and occasionally in California for over 50 years. J.B. was known to read the entire Bible at least 4-5 times a year, and could recite most of it from memory. He will be remembered for his sharp mind and great sense of humor, which he maintained throughout his entire life. He always had a little sermon for his visitors and never lost his love of spreading the word. He was truly an exceptional man that was ready to go home to meet his Lord and Savior; he will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lettie, his parents, two brothers: Carlton Lancaster and Dennis Lancaster, and a sister: Pauline Bryan. He is survived by only one nephew and three nieces as well as a handful of great nieces and nephews, several great great nieces and nephews and even a few great great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Lancaster will be held at 12:00 o’clock noon on Saturday, May 4, 2019, in Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at 11:00 A.M.

Interment will be at Rattan Cemetery, in Delta County.
