Wildcats, Lady Cats Host Sulphur Springs Track Meet Today

SSHS to Host Four Team Meet at Track Thursday

Coach Owens also said SSHS would be hosting a meet with four teams Thursday at the Sulphur Springs Track Complex. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. Wildcats Track Coach Matt Young is calling this year’s track season the oddest ever. A case in point was last Thursday’s Royse City meet. With the Wildcats’ basketball team playing at the State Tournament in San Antonio, the Wildcats track team was just over half it’s usual size. Coach Young said instead of 50 athletes, they took about 28 most of them JV members. In varsity results, Coach Young said Eli Sellers won the pole vault clearing a height of 12-feet, 6 inches. He said Rhett Reed set a personal record running the 800-meters in 2:08. Coach Young said he now has three runners who have done the 800 in less than 2:10. He said Landon Thonrton had quite a workout running the 3200-meters, 1600-meters and 800-meters races. Thrower Ryan Hammonds got a sixth place finish in the shot put. Despite the oddness of the track season so far, Coach Young said he likes how the Wildcats are shaping up.
