Wildcats Win Again And Will Be Headed To State Tournament

Wildcats Basketball 58, Frisco Lone Star 51 (Region 2 Championship Game)

The Wildcats’ basketball team punched their ticket for the State Tournament in San Antonio next week by winning the Region 2 Championship Game over Frisco Lone Star, 58-51 Saturday afternoon (March 2) at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. The Wildcats only led 11-9 after the first quarter but extended the lead to 28-15 at the half. The Rangers whittled a few points off the lead in the third quarter but the Wildcats still led after three, 40-31. The Rangers were never able to get closer than 7 points. The Wildcats were supported by a large number of fans on the home side of the gym. Sadaidriene Day Day Hall led the Wildcats with 21 points. Cameron Kahn added 15 points. Keaston Willis scored 13 points. Xavier Cork had 9 points. Lone Star’s Julian Larry led all scorers with 24 points and Marvin Mims scored 17. The Wildcats improved their season record 29-8. The State Basketball Tournament will take place on March 7-9 at The Alamodome in San Antonio. On Thursday, March 7, the Wildcats, ranked #4 in Class 5A, will play #2 ranked San Antonio Wagner. Mansfield Timberview, ranked #3, will play Manor. It has not been determined which game will be played at 7 p.m. and which one will take place at 8:30 p.m. The March 7 winners meet for the State Championship Saturday, March 9 at 3 p.m.
