Firefighter Injured In Monday Fire

A Sulphur Springs firefighter was treated and released for what authorities are calling minor injuries sustained during a duplex fire on Lemon Drive Monday.
The firefighter, who has not been identified, was treated for first and second degree burns to his ears and shoulder before being released from medical care Monday. When the blaze was first called in, emergency officials were told someone was inside the structure, but learned after firefighter entered that was not the case. Had they not been attempting entry to search for people, the fighters would likely not have been inside the structure as soon as they were, Sulphur Springs Public Safety Director Jay Sanders said.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but it’s believed to be accidental, as firefighters have found nothing suspicous during their investigation, which is onging, Sanders said.
