Soccer: Lady Cats, Wildcats Pick Up District Win Against Texas High

Lady Cats Soccer 2, Texas High 1 (Lady Cats won on penalty kicks, 3-2)

The Lady Cats’ soccer team broke into the district win column defeating Texas High in penalty kicks 3-2 to take a 2-1 win at Gerald Prim Stadium Friday evening (February 22). The teams battled to a 1-1 tie in regulation. Texas High scored in the first minute of the first half. The Lady Cats evened the match at 1-1 in the second half on a Brooke Harden goal assisted by Keeley Hudgins. The score remained tied at 1-1 through two scoreless halves of overtime. That’s when penalty kicks determined the winner. Trailing in PK’s 1-0 after one kicker, the Lady Cats got three successful penalty kick goals from Baylie Arrington, Hudgins and Alli Stephens. Goalkeeper McKenna Gammill secured the victory with three PK saves. Next the Lady Cats travel to Royse City to face perhaps the district’s toughest team. That match will mark the end of the first half of district play.

Wildcats Soccer 1, Texas High 0

The Wildcats’ soccer team outscored Texas High, 1-0 in Texarkana on a soggy Friday evening (February 22). The Wildcats goal was scored by Enrique Arellano assisted by Andrew Escobar. The Wildcats improve to 1-3 in district play with the win. Wildcats Soccer Coach Alexi Upton said it was a frustrating game because he felt his team should have scored a lot more goals. However Coach Upton said he would take the win adding he was proud of his team. The Wildcats complete the first half of district play Tuesday at home against Royse City.
