Game Day: Senior Night for Wildcat and Lady Cat Basketball

WILDCATS

The Wildcats’ basketball team will play it’s final home district game this year on this game day Friday (February 1). It’s senior night and Mount Pleasant is coming to town. In the Sulphur Springs Main Gym, the Wildcats JV will face Mount Pleasant’s JV at 5 p.m. Then after the Lady Cats’ Varsity game versus Mount Pleasant at 6:15 p.m., the Wildcats’ Varsity will take on the Tigers Varsity at around 7:30 p.m. On senior night, the Wildcats will honor Jeremiah Roland, Keaston Willis, Duece Berry, Xavier Cork and Manager Dylan Jester. The Wildcats enter the contest at the top of the district standings with a 6-0 record. They are ranked #4 in Class 5A and they are 20-8 for the season. Mount Pleasant comes into Friday night’s game with a 1-5 district record and they are 13-15 for the season. Still Wildcats Coach Clark Cipoletta expects quite a battle from the feisty Tigers. He says Tigers Coach Joey Chism does a good job adding Mount Pleasant is still a really good team. Coach Cipoletta said the Tigers have a lot of pride adding that the Wildcats have a large bulls eye on their back. The Wildcats will still have three road district games to play after Friday night. The Wildcats freshman team will also play Mount Pleasant in the SSHS Auxiliary Gym at 6:15 p.m.

LADY CATS

The Lady Cats’ basketball team also has their final home district game Friday evening on senior night with Mount Pleasant coming to town. The Lady Cats JV will be playing the Lady Tigers JV in the Auxiliary Gym at SSHS at 5 p.m. The Lady Cats will take on the Lady Tigers Varsity at 6:15 p.m. in the Main Gym. The Lady Cats will honor five on senior night: Sadavia Porter, Te’Arria Rose, Danielle Godbolt, Autumn Tanton and Tarayla Kelley. The Lady Cats are in third place in the district at 5-3. They are 23-6 for the season. Mount Pleasant is in fourth place in the district. The Lady Tigers are coached by former Lady Cats Coach Tina Carrillo. Lady Cats Coach Brittney Tisdell said Mount Pleasant is an athletic team and will play the Lady Cats hard. She said Mount Pleasant really wants a win against the the Lady Cats. Coach Tisdell also addressed senior night. She said it is a big deal for the Lady Cats and would produce a lot of emotion. Coach Tisdell said if the Lady Cats can keep their heads on straight, they will do okay. She said they need to stay calm and keep their emotions at bay. Coach Tisdell said she has great seniors who are very close. She said they know this is their last game in their home gym. The Lady Cats wrap up district play on Tuesday at Texas High.
