William Bartis “Red” Penny

Funeral Service for William Bartis “Red” Penny, age 99, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Cook officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park with Jason Penny, Joseph Penny, Christopher McFadden, Joe Lassiter, David Penny and Ronald “Squirrel” Wills serving as pallbearers and Chris Flores serving as Honorary Pallbearer.  Visitation will be held one hour before the service.  Mr. Penny passed away on Monday January 28, 2019 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital, Sulphur Springs.

William was born on November 24, 1919 in Arbala, to Clarence and Annie Penny.  He married Vernice Newsome on March 26, 1947 in Rockwall, Texas.  He served in the US. Army during WW II.  William worked for Oil States Industries in Arlington, TX for 25 years.  He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Vernice; sons, Bartis Lee Penny and wife, Elizabeth of Waxahachie, Randy Penny and wife, Shirley of Streetman, Terry Penny and wife, Kris of Midlothian; eleven grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Duncan.

William was preceded in death by is parents; sisters, Lillie Gode, Ola Mae Griffin, Carrie Ellis; brother, Milton Penny.

Memorials can be made to Wesley Methodist Church.
