The Saltillo Lions and Saltillo Lady Lions both won tournaments at Boles this past weekend (December 27-29). The North Hopkins Panthers were runners up in a tournament at Graford.
The Saltillo Lions defeated host Boles in the tournament final, 53-44 Saturday night. The Lions built a lead through three quarters going ahead 42-29. They held on to win in the fourth quarter. Chris Boekhorst had 24 points and Matthew Gurley scored 21 for the Lions. Ben Moore had 4 points. Andrew Redburn and Edi Olayo had 2 points each. The Lions, now 15-6 for the season, play at Wolfe City Saturday at noon.
The Saltillo Lady Lions went 4-0 in the Boles tournament to take the championship. The Lady Lions won the final game over Boles, 56-33 on Saturday. The Lady Lions outscored Boles in every quarter. Maddy Smith led the Lady Lions with 18 points. Paisley Kastner had 10 points and Anna Reeder scored 9. The Lady Lions are now 16-8 for the season. They play next at Avery Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
The North Hopkins Panthers were runners up in a Graford tournament losing to host Graford, 62-43 in the championship game Saturday. Panther Caleb Wyatt was named to the All-Tournament Team.
