Lady Cats Win Championship at Idabel Winter Classic Tourney

The Lady Cats’ basketball team won the championship of the Idabel, Oklahoma Winter Classic Saturday night (December 29) with a 46-33 win over Hugo, Oklahoma.

A big third quarter for the Lady Cats helped the Lady Cats get the win. Both teams got off to a slow start in a game that was a rematch from eight days earlier in Hugo. The Lady Cats led 6-4 after one quarter and by 12-11 at the half. The Lady Cats outscored the Lady Buffaloes 19-9 in the third quarter to take a 31-20 lead into the final period. Hugo made a run at the Lady Cats in the fourth quarter getting to within 6 points. The Lady Cats closed out the game on a 7-0 run to wrap up the win.

The Lady Cats went 3-0 in the Idabel tourney defeating Arkansas High, Northwest Classen of Oklahoma City and Hugo, Oklahoma. The Lady Cats are now 18-3 for the season.

The Lady Cats open district play next at Royse City on Friday at 6:15 p.m.

Meanwhile additional details have been provided for the Lady Cats win Friday in Idabel against Classen. The Lady Cats led Northwest Classen 7-5 after one quarter, 17-9 at the half, 31-15 after three quarters and then 44-28 at the end. The Lady Cats shot 40% from the field but the cold shooting Oklahoma City high school only hit 24% from the field. Autumn Tanton led the Lady Citys with 16 points and she had a double double with 11 rebounds. Sadavia Porter scored 14 points, hit a three pointer and had 7 assists, 6 steals and 4 deflections. Latavia Smith scored 7 points hitting all three of her shots from the field. Te’Arria Rose had 3 points getting a three-point basket. Nylah Lindley had 2 points and Colbria Harrison and Aliyah Abron scored 1 point apiece. The Lady Cats had 24 turnovers but they also collected 18 steals.
