Lady Cats Open Edgewood Tourney With Win Thursday

The Lady Cats’ basketball team opened the Edgewood tournament Thursday morning (December 6) bright and early at 8 a.m. with a 44-23 victory over Wills Point in a pool play game.

Lady Cats Coach Brittney Tisdell said the Lady Cats got off to a rough start in the early morning and looked like zombies. She said they woke up after a few minutes and then played a very good game. She was especially pleased with the Lady Cats defense. They allowed Wills Point only single digit scoring in each quarter. The Lady Cats led 12-5 after one quarter, 27-9 at the half and 38-18 after three quarters. Wills Point added only 5 points in the fourth quarter.

Senior post Autumn Tanton and senior guard Danielle Godbolt scored 14 points each. Godbolt had two three-pointers. Tanton and Godbolt both had 7 rebounds. Senior point guard Sadavia Porter scored 9 points with a three pointer and also had 6 steals, 6 deflections and 6 assists. Nylah Lindley scored 4 points with 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Kate Womack had 3 points on a three-point basket and had 2 rebounds. Colbria Harrison came off the bench and grabbed 4 rebounds. Senior TaRayla Kelley was able to play and got a steal. She has been out all season with a knee injury. The Lady Cats shot 37% from the field and they had 24 turnovers.

The Lady Cats have won the Edgewood tournament the past two years. The Lady Cats are also facing Gilmer in pool play Thursday. That game began at noon. The Edgewood tournament continues through Saturday.
