Know a Veteran in Need? This Organization Wants to Help

Veteran’s Day has come and gone, but some veterans need assistance all year long.   That is where Operation Victor Echo Tango comes in.  Chris Wilburn, director of the charity, spoke with KSST News after their charity BBQ contest at the Hopkins County Civic Center last weekend.  “We raised over $6,000 for local veterans at the last BBQ” Chris said.  “Which is almost as much as we have provided in monetary assistance this past year.”  The local charity, based in Yantis, helps veterans with a variety of needs.  From simple bill paying to yard maintenance and food collection, Operation Victor Echo Tango is up to the task.

Although they receive requests for monetary needs, there is also a need for general maintenance and home repairs that the veteran can simply no longer perform.  This is where the charity is able to send volunteers to the veteran’s home to help out.  Wilburn said, “It is not always a monetary

donation that is the best benefit for the veteran.”  Also, he stated that some veterans are too proud to ask for help, so he welcomes requests from friends and neighbors who may see a need.  If you would like to volunteer your time to help, or know a veteran who could use some assistance, you can reach Operation Victor Echo Tango at (903)335-0966.  Or visit their website at OperationVictorEchoTango.
