Lady Cat Volleyball Finishes Second in Pool Play; Continue Championship Bracket Play Saturday

In a grueling day of tournament play, the Lady Cats’ volleyball team won two and lost won at the Garland ISD Tournament Friday (August 10). Pool play took place at Sachse.

The Lady Cats opened with a solid 25-13, 25-10 win over Dallas Skyline. Then the Lady Cats continued their winning ways with a 25-16, 25-22 win over Carrollton Ranchview. In the second set, the Lady Cats saw a 20-14 lead turn into a 21-21 tie before they rallied at the end to get their fourth win of the season without a loss.

In a battle for the top spot in pool play, the Lady Cats ran into a buzz saw in the form of the host Sachse Mustangs. In the first set, Sachse blitzed the Lady Cats 25-13. In the second set, the Lady Cats played much better. The score was tied at 20-20 late in the set before Sachse closed strong for a 25-21 win. The 2-1 pool record gave the Lady Cats second place, good enough for a spot in the championship bracket.

In their opening game in the top bracket at Rowlett, the Lady Cats played well in spots against Frisco Memorial but had a hard time finishing sets well. After leading for almost the entire first set, the Warriors finally tied the Lady Cats and then surged into a lead that held up. A key swing saw the Lady Cats go from a 20-16 lead to a 23-20 deficit. Frisco Memorial won set one 25-22. In set two, the Lady Cats and Memorial were tied at 18-18 at on point. The Warriors again outscored the Lady Cats late to take a 25-21 set and the match.

The Lady Cats are now 4-2 for the season. The Lady Cats play again in the championship bracket at 9 a.m. Saturday at Sachse against an opponent to be determined.
