Wildcat UIL Literary Criticism Team Wins Championship at State

The Wildcats UIL Academic Literary Criticism Team won the state championship at the UIL Academic State Meet this past weekend (May 4-5) in Austin. The team is made up of Carissa Carter, Lainey Whittle, Celeste Leeds-Laliberte and Natalie Cruz.  In individual competition in Literary Criticism, Carter placed second, Whittle was fourth and Leeds-Laliberte was fifth.

In other team and individual results, the Wildcat Spelling and Vocabulary Team finished second in the state. Team members include Chase Charlton, Sarah Harper, Natalie Cruz and Gisselle Garcia. In Ready Writing, Annmarie Gunn was second in state.

In the Barbara Jordan Essay Contest, Breana Wooten was fifth and Rachel Bramlette was sixth.

In the Latino History Essay Contest, Bramlett was second and Gunn was sixth.

Wildcats UIL Academic Coordinator Gerald Grafton was unavailable for an interview Monday but issued a statements saying that eleven Sulphur Springs High School students competed at the UIL Academic State Meet this past weekend at the University of Texas in Austin. He said all eleven brought home at least one medal for their efforts. Grafton said 17 medals were earned in all. He said he was extremely proud of the way the students represented Sulphur Springs High School.
