William I. “Bill” Griffin

“Hard working hands are now at rest.” William I. “Bill” Griffin, Jr., 77, of Winnsboro, Texas passed away March 7, 2018. He was born on January 27, 1941 in Dallas, Texas to parents Irvin and Katherine Griffin. While growing up in Lancaster, Bill created lasting friendships. After graduating from Lancaster High School, he married his love, Jacquelyn Cowan Griffin. They had two sons which were the light of their world. After Jackie passed away in 1980, Bill found another to love and married, Shirley Bearden Griffin. Together they owned and operated the Kountry Kitchen Restaurant for over 20 years in Winnsboro.

Bill was always working on something and trying new adventures. His career focused on serving others as he worked and retired from the Lancaster Fire Department as a Lieutenant and Fire Marshal. He started his fire career with the Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department before it became a full time/paid department where he served as Chief. He served on the Lancaster School Board, Lions Club, Pee Wee Baseball and Football Coach, Rotary Club, Winnsboro Volunteer Fire Department and Winnsboro City Council. When it was time to have some fun, Bill loved to play golf, go on cruises and travel, go camping, fishing and hunting, grow a great garden, and drink coffee with his buddies. But most of all he loved, encouraged and supported his family; especially his two granddaughters in all their endeavors.

Bill is preceded in death by his first love, Jacquelyn Cowan Griffin; wife, Shirley Bearden Griffin; parents, Irvin and Katherine Griffin and brother, Tommy Griffin.

Bill is survived by his sons, Mark Griffin and wife, Shelly of Winnsboro and Mike Griffin of Rockwall; granddaughters, Jacquelyn “J.J.” Farmer and husband, Josh of Terrell and Kaylan Griffin of Winnsboro; sisters, Patty Peck and husband, Jerry and Tina Hansen and husband, Mark; stepson, Tony Welborn and wife, Ronda and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 9th, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro 816 W. Broadway Winnsboro, TX 75494. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at 11:00 am. also, at Beaty Funeral Home.
