Soccer Game Day: Senior Night for Wildcats Against Hallsville; Lady Cats Travel to Hallsville

Wiggins on Hallsville

Once again, in boys’ district soccer, it comes down to the Wildcats and Hallsville in the last district game for both teams to determine a playoff spot. The winner take all match takes place Tuesday evening (March 20) at Gerald Prim Stadium at 7 p.m. on Senior Night. The district’s fourth and final playoff spot is up for grabs. The winner is expected to face Lovejoy in a bi-district match. The past two seasons, the Wildcats have won at Hallsville in the district’s last game for both to claim a playoff spot. Wildcats Soccer Coach Nicky Wiggins is hoping the trend continues. Both teams come in with 5-6 district records and 15 points. Hallsville won at home 2-1 in the first half of district play. Coach Wiggins says the Bobcats are pretty good and he says they play hard. He says Hallsville has a good goal scoring forward. He scored goals against the Wildcats last season and earlier this year. Coach Wiggins says the Wildcats will have to keep an eye on him. Despite the earlier loss to the Bobcats, Coach Wiggins says he thought the Wildcats were the better team. A penalty kick was the difference in the Wildcats 2-1 loss at Hallsville. Coach Wiggins says the team that will win will be the one that makes a few more plays, doesn’t turn the ball over and scores goals. There is a JV contest at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday with the varsity match to follow at 7 p.m. at Gerald Prim Stadium.

Bailey on Hallsville

The Lady Cats’ soccer team has a very tough assignment in their final district game on the schedule. The Lady Cats face Hallsville on the road Tuesday night (March 20). The Lady Bobcats have already wrapped up the district championship by a wide margin. They have not allowed a single goal in district play. Hallsville has only lost 3 games this entire season. Lady Cats Coach Joel Bailey says the Lady Bobcats are a very good team and he adds they have had an amazing season. He says it will also be Senior Night so he expects lots of emotion from Hallsville. Coach Bailey hopes his Lady Cats can sneak up on Hallsville. The good news for the Lady Cats is that they are cemented in third place in the district standings. Pine Tree can catch the Lady Cats in points if they defeat Texas High Tuesday but Coach Bailey says the Lady Cats own the goal differential tie breaker against the Lady Pirates. The Lady Cats enter the Hallsville game with a 7-4 district record and 21 points. The Lady Cats are expected to play Wylie East in a bi-district playoff game next week. Tuesday night there will be a JV game at 5:30 p.m. with a varsity game to follow at 7 p.m. in Hallsville.
