Gene Mead, age 72 of Red Oak, passed away on Thursday, March 15th, 2018 peacefully at home in Red Oak. He was born on June 23rd, 1945 in Wood County, Texas to Cecil and Maud (Brumley) Mead. He was a retired Toll Attendant having worked with the North Texas Toll Authority and a member of the Assembly of God faith.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Bobbie J. Mead as well as his parents and brothers Pat, Dewayne and Larry Mead. Gene is survived by, a son, Shawn Mead of Ardmore, Oklahoma; a daughter, LaGena Glover and husband Kristopher of Red Oak, Texas; and five grandchildren Bryan, Chelsey, Grant, Haley and Jaymie.
Many days he spent outside on the porch drinking his coffee, playing Yahtzee, petting the dogs, Daisy and Rocky, and just enjoying the view and especially the birds, the only thing missing was a fishing pole. He was hard working and always found time for his family. He will be missed for his sense of humor and just for being the man he was.
Graveside Services will be held on Monday, March 19th, 2018 at Winterfield Cemetery near Pickton, Texas, at 11:00 am, Dr. Douglas G. Sullivan officiating.
